Clutch bag made in Reims, France from a vintage Obi from Kyōto that seems to be cut in the canvas of the Nymphéas of Claude Monet.

In the middle of the 19th century, Japanese prints ukiyo-e arrived in France, often as wrapping paper for ceramics. These prints attracted the attention of many artists and influenced their art, this passion for this new aesthetic was called Japonism.
Claude Monet presented in an exhibition in Paris in 1874 his painting “Impression, Soleil Levant” which inspired the name of the Impressionist movement.
In 1883, he moved to Giverny near Paris where he created a water garden with water lilies Nymphéas and a Japanese footbridge, a garden that he painted for 40 years, demonstrating his familiarity with the masters of ukiyo-e and their floating world.
The cycle of Nymphéas occupies a special place in the master ’s work: the day after the armistice of 1918, he offered France eight of these monumental paintings as symbols of peace, which were installed according to his plans in a unique space of two elliptical spaces forming a figure eight at the Musée de l’Orangerie
in 1927 shortly after his death.
